Midpoint Music Festival might have been my Cincinnati highlight for 2012. It was a great year for music in Cincinnati and we had a town of awesome bands come to town (all year, not just MPMF). Damien Jurado & Sharon Van Etten and Puscifer were highlights from Taft Theatre. Yeasayer and Polica and 20th Century Theatre were fantastic. Zola Jesus, WHY?, and Gruff Rhys were spectacular at the CAC. Easily the best year for music in a long time, I can’t wait to see what comes in 2013.

I wasn’t logged in when I posted this. I don’t know if it matters.

  • Dave Allen

The 2012 OTR highlight for me was the reopening of Washington Park. I take my dogs to the dog park. My kids take the grands to the children’s playground. I like the water features and seeing everyone have fun together. There is something for everyone and all of it has been done with a lot of thought and done well. This will be a major attraction in Cincinnati for many, many years to come.

  • Carol Buquo

My favorite is the reopening of Wahington Park. I take my granddaughter, Sophia there every week. My husband and I go there to read or to take a break when we walk to Findlay Market. What a jewel in the crown for the Queen City.

Simply put, I most enjoyed the manifestation of the idea of urban renewal. To see something as beautiful as OTR completely deteriorate would be a complete shame. Fortunately for us proud Cincinnatians, we do not have to worry about that anymore. There is something beautiful watching small businesses thrive, and OTR’s renewal has been a catalyst for the growth of many small, family owned businesses.

Ooh, ooh, pick me! :) I’ve been infatuated with the revitalization of downtown and OTR, and am an OTR resident. Washington Park has probably had the biggest impact in the region’s change this year, but I think I’ll call the 21(c) Museum Hotel and Metropole my favorite new addition to the area!

  • Meg Koehl

The great new restaurants, the new life and energy you feel when you walk around, Washington Park (where we just got our family pictures for my parents for 2013) and my most favorite is the OTR run walk day with all the vendors, food and music!

I have loved all the new places opening. Metropole was a lovely dinner. I am excited to hit up Kaze and Quan Hapa in the next few weeks also! Also, I enjoyed the movie date nights in Washington Park this summer.

Fresh beginnings – including the upgraded and multifunctional Washington Park. Love the changes!

  • Natalie Robinson

I loved, loved, loved the opening of Washington Park. Loved the World Choir games all over downtown. Love how my downtown is turning into a place everyone now whats to be apart of.I love all the happenings on the square. Movie night, skating rink. Salsa, Reggae…everything. Whats not to like? I would love to be a part of the New Years eve Party!!

  • Quinolin

I look forward to finding a home in or near downtown. I move to Cincinnati 4 years ago and not know much about the city, all I heard was don’t live in OTR. Finally ready to buy my first home and you know where I want to be? In or closer to OTR.

    • chris Wiedeman

Are you a pioneer or someone who wants to just have things done? If you’re a pioneer I suggest a building needing work up around Findlay market. You can buy a building from 10 to 30K and have it rehabed or do it yourself.
If you just want to move in look on Vine St. south of LIberty. Or the CBD, prices are higher but you can still find a nice place.

      • Quinolin

        Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Chris Wiedeman

Looking forward to showing off all the continued progress in the CBD to the ten or so guests we will have over that night. First we will cocktail at home, then we will stroll through the square on our way to one of the great bars on Walnut for a second round and to see who is out and about. Sometime around 1/2 an hour before midnight we will run back to the square to squeeze in somewhere and watch the show.

I love that the expansion of OTR is revitalizing Cincinnati! The unique restaurants and bars, like Bakersfield and the Anchor OTR, are stimulating economic and cultural growth for the city. And I really want to try out KAZE!! I can’t wait to celebrate NYE on the square, and ring in 2013 the right way! #2013OTR

  • Wida

There is just something cinematic about driving into downtown Cincinnati. It literally takes my breath away each time, and seeing the progress of OTR is something to write home about each day. There is a presence of prosperity you can feel when you walk down Vine Street, and I’m so proud to witness it. The things I am most looking forward to is renewal of the shopping scene, food scene, and especially the music scene (Just look at the Midpoint Music Festival & Bunbury!) in 2013, which is so very near at this moment. Why should I win this contest? To be apart of Downtown Cincinnati’s revival with its first ever VIP Fountain Square NYE’s party! I would be the happiest person in the world! And by winning this, it would be the start of something grand…

  • Matthew Lucas

The revival of OTR is one of the most exciting things going on in all of
Cincinnati. Between the great restaurants such as Taste of
Belgium and A Tavola, all of the amazing bars, and the new casino going
in, there really is not a better place to be! Downtown Cinci has always
been one of my favorite places in all of Ohio, but now with the new and
improved OTR district, it is clearly the best city in the whole
state. If you haven’t been to OTR recently you are truly missing out! Hurry up and experience this new and thriving part of the city!

  • Jamie

I’m excited for a new season of Washington Park activities! I hope they do an Easter Egg hunt in the spring. And it’d be fun to do a beer/wine tasting in the park too. Ready for more restaurants, shops, and fun things to keep happening in OTR. Hope Zula is good!!

  • adam tiffany

My wife and I moved down to 4th & Plum this summer before getting married. We really enjoyed watching the banks progress and walked up through OTR at least once a week. We’re looking for something to do that works well with her schedule (getting off at 10:00 NYE). We’ve since moved to Clifton, but would love the chance to spend the evening down on Fountain Square again!

  • Ben Morris

I recently made the move downtown and my girlfriend and I celebrated our 6 month anniversary with dinner at Senate, desert at Taste of Belgium and a movie on the lawn in Washington Square Park. I travel a lot for work and I am so excited to live in such a vibrant city that works to hard to make accessible spaces for it’s citizens… Romantic evenings included. She has lived her entire life in Evandale and hadn’t really spent much time downtown because of misconceptions about safety, blight, etc… I have really enjoyed exploring OTR and other areas with her together and experiencing all the amazing things our city has to offer. :)

  • CJ

My partner and I moved to the OTR December 2011 and we love it here! The renovation of Washington Park has made a big difference, with concerts, City Flea, and MPMF; not to mention the great dog park! New restaurants popping up all the time and we want to try them all! Looking forward to a great NYE party on Fountain Square!

When thinking of a venue for New Years Eve we decided this year let’s stay local. We have put a lot of money into our community and helping our community grow. With all of the changes and work that has gone into OTR, it makes it a place where we can continue to bring friends and family. Whether it’s a stroll along Fountain Square and ice skating one evening, dinner in one of our favorite resturants, picking up fresh groceries from Findlay Market or just relaxing with a drink from Mynt. This is the place to be during the holidays to celebrate with friends and family. We take pride in our community and look forward to the changes for 2013. Hope to see everyone on NYE and maybe we will win tickets as well!

  • Amanda

I recently moved to Cincinnati and have loved exploring my new town. I had a great time at Razzle Dazzle, looking at the city from new perspectives (Carrew Tower) and finding restaurants, new or old. So far, I think my favorite is Senate!

  • lisa kunz

I have lived in New england and Ohio and I keep coming back. Everyone says New York is so great, but I have better times in Cincinnati with great food and entertainment in my life. The fountain square area has grown to be one of the most breathtakeing city areas I have ever seen. Everytime I go to downtown I have a experience that is unforgetable. I have been wanting to Ice skate on fountain square and have not yet done it. The colors in the buildings and lighting at night our like no other place in I have ever seen. When you walk outside after a wonderful dinner and cross the square you feel like its hollywood the buildings our so intriquing at night. Holloween on the square was one of the funniest nights ever. The people make Cinci always freindly and willing to help. I would love to spend my New Year in downtown CIncinnati for another memorable evening. I just love what is happening with all the art work on the buildings and the Freedom musuem is one the best museum I have ever been to. It inspired me for our country.
