Over the Rhine Washington Park

The band Over the Rhine returns to its namesake neighborhood to perform at Washington Park‘s grand opening concert tonight starting at 7pm. Jake Speed and the Freddies will be the opening act. The park, already wildly popular since its July 6 reopening, has already hosted several special events in addition to its weekly programming. A full calendar of events at the park can be viewed on the park’s website here.

Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist are the husband and wife team at the center of Over the Rhine and the duo that gave the band its name. The couple’s history in the neighborhood reaches back 20 years when, according to the Enquirer, “Detweiler lived in an apartment on the 1200 block of Main Street. Bergquist worked across the street at Kaldi’s Coffee House.” The couple now lives in rural Highland County but the park’s renovation and the neighborhood’s rebirth has them thinking “about getting a foothold back in the neighborhood” wrote Detweiler in an email to Enquirer.

The following 25 minute video serves as a nice introduction to the musical vehicle that is Over the Rhine.
