119 E. Twelfth Street will see new life as apartments and a neighborhood bar according to the building’s owner and developer Jim Daffin. Daffin has operated Daffin Development for over twenty years specializing in residential land development and commercial real estate management.

rhinehaus” (all one word, lowercase) is the name of the bar that will fill the old Rhino’s space. The theme is neighborhood/dive sports bar. Bar owners Aaron Kohlhepp and Jack Weston hatched the idea for rhinehaus earlier this year when they were having drinks in Over-the-Rhine. They wanted to watch some college basketball but there were no great options in OTR. Over the last several months the idea grew into a business and now renovation work is underway. The partners are aiming for a December opening.

The back half of the bar space will be opened up and the storefront will be renovated in an historically correct way by Pater Architectural Restorations.

The upper floors will be rehabbed into three two bedroom, two bathroom apartments. All the windows in the building will be replaced. The new windows will be of a replicated design. Daffin expects to begin leasing the apartments in early 2013.

Connect with rhinehaus on facebook and twitter @rhinehausotr. The bar’s website and brand identity are under development.
