The Japanese restaurant, sushi bar, and beer garden that will open later this year in the Color Building will be named Kaze 風 which is Japanese for “wind.” It’s pronounced kah-zee like “kamikaze” which literally means “God wind.”

Update: According to a reader comment, “Kaze is actually supposed to be pronounced Kah-zeh (the last syllable is supposed to be similar to the first syllable of zeppelin).” Because I do not speak Japanese, I checked with Google Translate before I posted and heard a similar pronunciation to “kamikaze” but the reader comment sounds valid too. Listen to the Google Translate’s pronunciation here.

Kaze is actually supposed to be pronounced Kah-zeh (the last syllable is supposed to be similar to the first syllable of zeppelin), not like how it’s shown above, which is actually a common mistake for non-Japanese speakers.

Trust the reader’s comment re pronunciation. ka-zeh. Kami-ka-zeh … same kaze = wind. And while we’re at it: kah rah oh keh, not karry-okie, thank you very much and arigato gozaimashita. ;-)
